6x9 box in the rear?
6x9 box in the rear?
Since I don't want to invest in a sub and amp I've been thinking about getting some 6x9" speaker boxes and fitting them in the sides of the rear where the old speakers went in the plastic housing (cut the plastic so the box fits there). Then I could run some 6x9" speakers and have better bass along with better quality.
Anyone think this idea is good/bad. Or if anyone has done something like it, knowledge is good.

You aren't going to get any good bass from 6x9's compared to any sub setup.
Just a thought, put some amped 8" subs in the stock rear speaker locations. You would have to cut some metal and/or plastic to fit it but it may work if done correctly. It would definitely add some bass that you wouldn't get from the stock speakers and/or 6x9's.
You're not going to get any better sound quality with 6x9's sitting in the cab, if anything it will be worse. For any 'sound quality' you only need a decent set of speakers up front.

yea, i had 6x9's in boxes running off an amp on both sides of my sub and when i shut off the sub, all the 6x9's really did was just shout out nothing but highs and super high mid bass. didn't sound good at all. check out www.sonicelectronix.com for a cheap sub, box, and amplifier, but i've always said if your gunna spend the money, get the good **** now instead of throwing away your money on something you don't really want.
