After about a year of my amp working flawlessly it has started to play about 5 minutes and then cut out for 10 seconds or so and start playing again. I had my alternator and battery checked out and that is not the problem. Would anyone have any clue what is wrong? I have tried everything and can not figure this one out, but it is driving me insane. If anyone is interested it will be going up for sale and I will be buying a Power Acoustik amp to replace it. Jl 300/2 I got the alternator and battery checked out and checked behind the cd player and amp for loose wires..

 

Typically when it does something like that it is heating up and the internal circuit protection is shutting it down. If the amp is wired up incorrectly or the speakers are wired up in 2 ohm instead of 4 ohm whatever it may be. Or the amp is on its way out.

 

It must be on it's way out because everything is 4ohm and it has worked flawlessly for almosta year to a year and a half.

Thanks for the help guys, I am going to school to get a meter and check everything out and will probably be buying a new amp in about 2 to 3 weeks.

 

call JL they may replace it.....i know they have great customer service and really stand behind their shat!

 

Try with other speakers first. Have you read the manual???? Checked the status lights on top during the issues?

Read the portion about status lights and then the troubleshooting section.

 

I bet your ground is corroded or loose.

 

Im with Him.....or its a bad ground....ive never heard of a JL amp doing that unless it gets heated up, ide call JL and have them replace it, someone said it before but they stand behind there products 100%

 

You got PM and remember....a full troubleshoot saves a lot of time, money, and shipping costs...a good prtion of car audio problems are something simple.

 

Im going to check that ground in the morning, if not the amp is gonna go. lol I hate to see it go, I love the damn thing.

 

By any chance was / is it REAL hot outside when you get in the truck and use it? My 4-channel /Alpine was doing the same thing, and just touching it, it was insane hot; I imagine it goes in to protect mode. It will play at low volumes, but at higher ones it will play for a second then pause/reset for a few more seconds and repeat the sequence, until it cools down enough to play normally.
My amp works fine in regular weather.
