Better system for the Ranger
Better system for the Ranger
Ok well I am absolutely clueless when it comes to this stereo system. I'm looking to increase quality. I have a pioneer deck can't remember the number but it has blue lights behind the faceplate. I have pioneer speakers in the doors. What would be a good starter setup for an amp or sub? I have no clue if it's just a sub I would want or a amp as well..Help me out guys...Money is kinda an issue....
If money is an issue and you are just starting I'd suggest going to Wal-mart and picking up a Visonik Sub/built-in amp/box combo, they are about $60-65 and then get the wires for another $30-35. Then install it yourself. Total cost is about $100 and gives you a pretty decent sound. I am quite happy with mine.

I have long since cleaned up all the wiring.

I put the exact same sub in my brothers car, got it for 50, and picked up a Sony headunit with 4 speaks for 100 at wallyword, worked out to be a good system for the price, just doesn't have the same quality and power as my trucks system, but alot more time and money involved there.
If your tight on money and low on knowledge, start reading up to find out what type of amp and sub you would be interested in and check craigslist. I see alot of subs and amps being sold on there.

It's one of those situations where doing it right the first time can save ALOT of headache. Alot of guys on here have ran there wires under carpeting and whatnot, several of them have made the switch to a few grommet holes and running them under/around places like that, can save some ehadache in the future
Especially if you start adding more and more switches and lights and CB's and coax runs and whatnot throughout the cab.
If you have sound now and want good sound later then stepping stone installs are a waste of money.
If you just want something a little better, wal-mart is fine.

I have a wal-mart amp pushing my kicker sub and it sounds pretty good. Wal-mart is not a bad place to start for your first install. But if money is not an issue then go all out and stop by a stereo shop. Good luck.
I couldn't find that visionik sub/amp combo at walmart nor on their website. I think I might just research research for a sub and amp cause I still need to figure out the wiring and whatnot....because yes I am clueless with this stuff like I said earlier haha
Your best bet is to pick up the wiring and start looking for used amps. Subs and boxes can be had fairly cheaply. A new cheap unit won't perform like a good condition used setup. Walmart may have gear which works decent too idk.
You need some fairly heavy wire, at least 8 gauge, an in line fuse.also terminals for attaching to your battery and your keyed power wire to your amp\deck. And rca style connectors. The fuse should be as close to the battery as possible. Grind or sand your ground wire spot well. Don't run your signal wires near any power wires.

I'm still wondering where the hell you can fit a sub in a single cab. There's just no room behind the seats in mine.
Anyways today I ordered some Pyle 5x7's for my Ranger. Seem like a good deal at $20 a pair and they got some good reviews. I'll tell you how they perform in a few days when I get them.
