ok, this is for my moms truck. 03 xlt factory single CD. when you start the truck it clicks and rattles and sounds like its jammed w/o any disc in it. then reads CD error and wont load or do anything. radio works fine.
when i was a tech, all we ever did was replace them, so im lookin into that. i see an 04 single CD in the classified right now. the face is a different, but i dont care about that. jus want one that works and will not break again soon.

does the 04 part have better guts than the older ones?

I thought they were all pretty much the same? Stay away from the CD6s though... they will jam if you just look at em funny.

x3 I had atleast 6 in my truck in less than a year. Kept Jamming and I got tired of it ruining my CD's so I went aftermarket. You should be ok with a singledisk.

There are players that sound better than others. I had the premium sound 6 disc player and one of the times they replaced it I got a regular one, the sound quality wasn't near as good!

I have the Mach-MP3 version in my Ranger and love it. I had the CD6 with RDS, however I needed something that plays the MP3's. I'd sell you the CD6 real cheap, however I'm not sure it would survive shipping. I've heard that if you even look at them funny, they die on ya'.

mine(6cd) was broken when i got my truck, its worked fine since they fixed it, i'm trying to stick to using the radio tho, avoid changing disks. i wanna get one of the better ones, but i think i'll stick to the stock versions for now

I never have had a problem with the 6 CD changer / MP3 player in my truck
It is a factory high power Pioneer unit though - seperate amp
As a matter of fact the AMP was under water for a short time but dried out and has not skipped a beat

And I look plenty funny
