Fitting Ford am/fm cd player to base Ranger

Have a 2009 Ranger, base xl with just an am/fm radio. Want to keep it all Ford, thus looking at upgrading to a Ford unit, am/fm/cd player. There all over e-bay and fairly cheap.
The radio now installed has the one black plug in back, whereas the am/fm/cd players have 2 plug in areas. I realize second plug is probably for sub/amps, but not going to install those.
Just trying to find out if the new am/fm/cd radio will accept the single black plug to power the basic radio functions, ie, will the newer radio work with just the one plug?
The Ranger is in pristine condition, 100% stock, thus I only want to install what would have been available from Ford in 2009.

CD head units often had separate amplifiers for regular speaks, not just subs

Wiring diagrams here by year up to 2006: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...diagrams.shtml

Below are two diagrams for 2008 Ranger which should be same as 2009, basic should look like yours, one 16 pin connector, audiophile should be CD model, but looks like same 16 pin connector and an added 8 pin for subwoofer amp..............but............not sure how the CD head unit will react with no sub amp connected, could display an error message???, I would doubt it, but really don't know

Thanks. I've seen those diagrams, but just wanted some input from someone with "hands on" experience.
Found on google some you tube vidio where some have done the mod I want to make and have not had any problem using only the one plug.
Just wanted to verify before dropping 100 bucks.
Have done many many many radio swaps since my first car in 1964, but always aftermarket radio's. Never done oe to oe.

For general info, I purchased an am/fm/cd player on e-bay. Came out of a 2007 Ranger. Swap out took all of 5 minutes, and the factory plug from the base am/fm radio plugged into the new one with no problem. Everything works as it should. My ranger didn't have the second plug for the amp/sub hook up but I didn't need it.

Good job!

I remember way back when I installed a stereo in my first Toyota.

Crimping and twisting a LOT of wires in the dash that took hours...

Now the modularity (is that a word?) of a simple harness makes those hours into minutes. Lovin' it!
