MTX vs. JL Audio subs?

ok guys, here's my question. In a week im gunna be going on vacation, and while im off work for the week, i wanna replace my factory sub and amp (along with some other mods to the X) I got lucky enough to have the Sport with the factory sub and enclosure in the back. Well the only problem is, if i wanna use the factory box (the sub is hidden in the side wall, and i like it not being seen) i have to have an 8 inch sub. And so far, the only 8 inch subs i can find are MTX and JL Audio. Now my question... whats the difference? sound wise i mean. I've never been a huge audio guy, but the way my sport is set up, it has to have the sub for base, otherwise i won't have any at all. Any help would be great here before i buy one, thanks guys in advance.

JL's have really good SQ and SPL subs. they sound great and hold alot of power....the down side to them is they are kinda pricy.....

MTX's are good subs but not the quality of the JL subs. they sound good but are not so pricy.....REMEMBER YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!

JL audio hands down! I had mtx and they blew. The JL lasted a long time and is still going to this day 3 years later in 3 different vehicles.

+1 For JL. If you can afford it get it. Thats the only bad thing about JL is the price. This is my current setup in my 02 FX4

Kenwood DDX 8017
1 JL 10 W7 Sealed box
2 Sets of JL XR 570 CXI
Running 2 JL amps for all of this

It hits very hard for only 1 10. Overall very impressed with JL. You wont be dissappointed!

Check out MBQuart 8's. I love MB, I have two of their Reference model 12's and love them. I'm not sure how much power you're running to it, I know the MB subs aren't extreme-high-power, should it should work; and they're decently priced.

i see a couple things wrong in here

1)JL's have really good SQ and SPL subs. they sound great and hold alot of power
jl doset have spl subs what so ever, they arnt know for their getting loud capabilities, last time i checked they dont hold much power they are also known for their efficiency

2)REMEMBER YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
not alaways unless you get way to cheap, i know many subs better than a W7 for a whole lot cheaper

3)I had mtx and they blew
Dosent sound like the subs fault to me...

4)JL is good but shouldnt be considered GOD

some ideas

A) Tangband more thought of home audio speakers, but many people have used as car subs, in a contest on a forum a little back i remember they had a great 8 challenge, the Tangband came in first in front of W7 and RE 8s and others

the first one uses a neo motor so it is easier to handle
B) Resonant engineering RE8
www.reaudio.com
C) Soundsplinter RL_I 8(beefiest 8 ive evar seen this would be the one i would get

www.soundsplinter.com
D) JL w7 8
E) Image dynamics IDQ 8 i believe is the model
F) kicker has cvr 8s and L7 8s maybe CVXs now dont know
G) there are a good bit more also

I'm shocked nobody has asked what he's going to power it with. That would affect my recommendation...

Going off subs alone., I'd stick with a JL 8W7, but the mounting depth is probably way to much. Plus it's a 3 ohm sub. I'd like to also see a factory amp push the 300 watt rms this sub wants.

The MTX T5508-04 is probably alot more friendly to the stock explorer box. (Mounting depth, sealed volume, power requirements) It's 100-200 watts RMS and has 4 ohm single or 4 ohm dual voice coils.

So I think the MTX would be a much better match.

Thaks guys.... This is probably the amp im gunna be going with... its smaller than most, so mounting it hidden behind everything (im gunna try to put it where the factory amp is now) should be easier....

MTX Road Thunder 200 Watt 2 Channel Car Audio Amplifier

As for Subs... I looked on the explorer Forums... nobody on there really said anything on sound, but it seamed that MTX and JL Audio were the ones they went with...

JL Audio 8W0-4 8" 75W 4ohm Subwoofer

MTX T4508-04 8 inch subwoofer 4 ohm 200 watts

Im just not sure what to go with, i want the best sound i can get for what i can fit, im tired of having my bass turned way down. Alll i hear when its up is crap lol

if i could guess the stock amp would probably be no more than 50rms, i ASSuMEd he would be getting a different amp, i alaways find a sub first then worry about amps later, thats just me though

just a question but is it really that important for you to use the stock box and spot?
it would save you a lot of trouble if you just bought a 10 and a sealed box, it would be small and take up hardly any space, its an explorer sport you dont need every bit of it, if you do, just pull the box over and put it in the back seat

alaways get a bazooka bass tube

edit... do you have any specs on the box, mounting depth and size mainly
