Just bought new reg. cab sub box

all 4 speakers are 5x7. you can fit a few different sizes in there tho. 5.25s, 6 1/2s.. 6x8s (im pretty sure anyway).

right now i have 6 1/2 components in my doors, with the tweeters flush mounted up on the dash near the wind shield. i have no rear speakers just becuase the front are simply loud enough, plus my sub box covers where they'd mount!

a decent speaker isnt too hard to find if you're looking to get better than stock. memphis makes good speakers, eclipse, mb quart.. theyre all pretty good.

if you're willing to spend some money to get great sound, look into mb quart or morel speakers. i had a set of phoenix gold Ti5 Elites, they were 300 rms, 600 max.. and actually handled those numbers, they didnt bull **** thier numbers like most companies do. my cross over for them was having problems, (factory, not becuase of me!), so i swapped them out, the put a little more money down, for a set of Morel Hybrid Ovation 6s, its their top of the line speaker. they're 6 1/2 components, and they're great. i love everything about them. if you are willing to spend the money, id recommend a set. ill be getting a second set soon! gotta get another amp for them first tho!

Actually the door speakers are 6x8, but essentially both sizes are interchangable (they even share the same bolt holes) You can fit 6x9 in the front if you're not afraid of doing a little fabrication to get it to mount/fit. Lots of people have done it before. But 6x9's in the rear of a Regular cab is near impossible.

I've had great luck with all Polk speakers. Had four ex368's in my old truck(and soon the new one), and they did a good job while my crossover was set to 200 hz. LF response could have been better, but I was overpowering. Now Polk has the MMC series which are unbelievable. Alpine makes great speakers. I can not say I've heard a memphis system, but people say great things about them.

They key is to buy a set of speakers that will complement each other (cover the frequency range and provide good staging where you're gonna mount them). Then use crossovers and maybe an equalizer to get each speaker to only output what it does best.

My advice though, is to consider an aftermarket amplifier for the doors, and eventually an aftermarket head unit. If you really want to keep your stock head unit, focus on speakers with high sensitivity ratings. That'll help get the most out of the stock deck.
