No sub control = blown speakers!

Hey everyone, what would be the best solution for me. I have a kicker L5 sub and an eclipse head unit that doesnt have sub control. I have blown a couple speakers now and am wondering what i can do so i stop ruining my speakers.

which model hu do you have?? easiest way would to be just add a gain control for your subs.. PAC makes the one i have. here's a pic of it. im sure a few other people have the same one, or one similar to it.

Sending too much bass to the speakers? Or too much volume on an underpowered system?

How is it wired? Does your eclipse head have 3 pairs of RCA' outputs? I would assume not and that you have the subwoofer wired in with the speakers. Check your manual/head unit for any signs of a crossover control, and think about replacing the head unit for one that does. Or you can find some external amplifiers that have full range "pre-outs". Then you can run an 2 or 4 channel amp for the speakers with a low-pass filter, and a mono amp for the sub(S) running off a high-pass filter.

A cheap option is this:

Wire them in to block bass from overpowering your speakers.

The hu has two pairs of preouts. I have the amp running to one and my sub is the only thing connected to the amp. It is a mono-amp. I think i am sending too much bass to the speakers because i cannot control the amount i send to them without a sub-control hu. What kind of amp would i need to hook up to the speakers in order to filter them. Also would i just hook that amp to the other preouts? If you have any specific amp suggestions or what kind exactly i would need i would appreciate it, then ill have something to go by. If i were to get those bass blockers that you suggested, how exactly are they supposed to be wired in? Thanks alot!

Bass blockers install off the positive terminal of the full-range speakers. 1 per speaker, and they help to "rolloff" unwanted sound frequencies. Not needed if you get an amp with a internal crossover. Bass blockers are cheap and not very efficient, but they would help your situation for sure and be a good temporary fix until you get a 2nd amp. The Hz range and the dB scale will tell you exactly how much the bass blocker will do.

Pre-outs on AMPS are just like they are on the head unit. They are used when you daisy chain multiple amplifiers.
