pioneer vs infinity

i'm going to upgrade my front speakers and can't figure out if I should get the pioneer 3-way 6x8s or the infinity reference 2-way 6x8s. I've heard good things about both of these speakers. I'm not going to amp the speakers and I currently have a pioneer headunit which puts out 50 watts. There probably isn't much of a difference considering they aren't components, but I was just looking for opinions on which would be better.

Listen to both of them at the store. Get a CD with good, clean music, or the shop should have a test CD for you to listen to. Set the EQ on their cd player to flat, and listen to both speakers. Pick which one you like the best

the main thing ive noticed with infinity's is that the tweets on them are usually pretty harsh, but nothing a little eq cant fix and they arnt the best midbass speakers but if you deaden the doors and set them up good they should sound nice

havnt used pioneer speakers much so cant say anything about them

the"50w" the HU puts out isnt near 50 watts, probably 20wrms or so if that, so if you ever want to upgrade in the future pick up a set of componets and a amp and you would be set

i personally liked the poineers better, just because of the music i listen to.

Since the pioneer 4-way 6x8s are only five bucks more, would it be more worth it to get those over the 3-ways or will I not even tell the difference?

ok since you are not planning on amping up the speakers i would try to stay awya from a 3-way style...usually they require more power..and as bamaboy stated you MAY be putting out 20wrms...the rating of 50 you see is a peak..if you can give me a model number i can tell you exactly. with all this in mind i would go with a two way because you will be able to get more of a max performance of the speaker. but for true good sound a 4ch amp is always nice..doesnt have to be big..and plan on spending a minimum of $200.00
