I bought my truck with an aftermarket kenwood CD player already installed by the previous owner. the Cd player is EXTREMELY sensitive, I dont even have to hit a bump or a pot-hole to make it skip, and its really beginning to get annoying. I have no clue where it was installed, so I can't complain to them...so today I took out the stereo and tried to find the problem. when I pulled it out, I noticed the CD player is supported by a black bar, and it just rests ontop of that. with no other support. here is the cd player: (click picture to enlarge)

So here's my questions:

1) Is the black bar stock, or did the installer put that in with the aftermarket?
2) What are your suggestions as to how I could correct it, or get more support to hold it in place?

that bar isnt on mine..so my guess is aftermarket..

 

The black bar is from the factory, its what the factory player slides in on. On the factory radio there is a peice of plastic on the back that slides over that.

 

never saw that on mine...intresting..

 

So what can i don to fix it???

 

i dont have that bar either...

my suggestion is to take it out and see if it is infact the problem and not that your cd player or cds are bad...

 

Flip the mounting bracket that your CD player is in right now to were the pocket is on the bottom of it. I have never had any issues with mine, it could just be the CD player.

 

It might be the bar is transmitting the vibration.. maybe if the bar is really needed.. you could pad it with something... thin foam rubber? dont know.

 

I know its not the cd's because ive tried at least 5 and they all skip, It could possibly be the cd player, it isnt the top of the line.

that is what i was thinking the problem was, ill play with it some more this weekend

 

Why flip it? what would that do? then the bar would be farther below the cd player, and it would be dangling, i think that would cause more of a problem

 

hes trying to say that the bars the problems, so fliping it will raise it up more so that its not on that bar and thus no vibrations...

 

Im going to try and put some foam between the bar and cd player sometime tomarrow, I'll see if that works, if not I'll try and flip it.

 

i took the clip off of the back of the stock radio and put it on my alpine. the clip holds the back of the radio for support and also prevents somebody from just sliding out your radio with some clips :)
the clip wraps around that bar by the way

 

1. There is a clip that jacob mentions that should screw into the back of the aftermarket radio (and stock radio) It should attach to this rail and help stabilize the rear end.
2. I doubt this will help you much since it seems to happen "without hitting any bumps". So chances are the kenwood is just losing it's internal suspension and may need to be replaced.

 

i agree, the clip would support the back from bouncing around, but at the same time would also transfer more shock through the clip making you still have the same problem. might need to get a new CD player or get yours fixed

 

Well they are bumps, but it also skips everytime i shut the doors...things like that.
I would use the clip, but i dont have it. bought the truck with the stereo

 

Talk to any stereo installer, they'll probably have one laying around that they'll give you for free.

 

theres an aftermarket piece you need the goes on the radio and slides on there....It comes with the install kit for the radio bracket/piece that goes in the bezel

 

I had some spare time today and got around to fixing it myself...



I cut out a piece of about an inch thick foam, and wrapped it with electrical tape, and stuck it onto that black bar to absorb vibrations. It may look sketchy but nobody sees it anyway...Best part is that its functional. I put everything back together and took it for a ride, I first noticed it was making a difference when i shut the door, it did not skip, and when i drove over a steel plate on the road....no skip. Not bad for a 20 minute quick fix. I pland to get a new cd player in the future along with amps and speakers so this will do for he time being. Thanks for all your guys help.
