I'll be doing the baggy test when I get the car; hopefully there's nothing too bad that a pre-wax can't take care of. I have no idea where my clay bar went to... hopefully the dog didn't eat it.

 

From working at a new car dealer. I would clay bar a brand new car. All kinds of stuff gets on those cars during transport.. We had some cars so bad they had to go to the bodyshop and have parts repainted due to flaws from the factory. We had one car something got on it in the train yard and stained what looked like water spots on the glass to the point where it had to be replaced


If you didnt guess I worked at a Dodge dealer with their crappy quality and misaligned body panels

 

Don't be scared of clay barring. You just nedd to make sure to wash the vehicle well even twice before doing it. And when you do be gentle. I wouldn't clay bar the vehicle until it has been at least 6 months since the production date. Paint takes a whiel to properly set.

 

How about going for a teflon coat?

 

Good Old Turtle Wax is the way I have done it for ever.
There is a premium pastte now that work well.
Also turtle Wax has every Truck Care Product you could ask for and for me they work just fine.

As stated thin coats.

 

Look for the build date (some where on the drivers door) because I've been told not to wax a new car till 6 months after its build date. Clear coat is not hardened yet. The clay bar is great for an older car that has many years of neglect done to it. It does feel like its been waxed after you have clayed it. The kits do cost a bit, you may get two to three cars clayed before you notice the color of it start to change. I've gone to Meguire's now and love the look. I do two coats with a hand buff and then one coat with the orbital buffer to the top and hood, seeing is that they a get the brunt of the fall out.
Ask a detail shop if you don't get the answers you trust.

Awesome, I waxed it exactly 6 months after the build date (September 2010). I bought a 2011 Ford Mustang GT. I've got a couple threads up with photos of it.
