2008 B2300 coolant temp sensor location

I have been using Google and am only finding other generation models or V6 info. If somebody could give me an idea of were to look I would appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum

2001-2011 2.3l DOHC Ranger/Mazda doesn't use an ECT sensor, it uses a CHT(cylinder head temp) sensor instead, between spark plugs 2 and 3, that other hole in the valve cover

Looks like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/LyUAA...F0l/s-l500.jpg

Need a deep socket wrench to get it out, I think its 19mm

Thanks for the welcome and the information.I got a check engine light. Went to auto parts to use their scan tool and got the following message:
Coolant Thermostat (coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature) DTC Severity 2 of 3. This fault may pose damage to components and should be

Auto parts guy said I needed one of these:

Based on what the code reader said do you think I am headed in the right direction?

All Codes are PXXXX, or BXXXX, or CXXXX, or UXXXX

"(coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature)" is not a code and has 0 value in diagnostics, just FYI

Did you write down the code or codes?

Example of PXXXX codes here, not all of them, just some: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...trouble_codes/
You will notice there are several variations, different codes, for one system or area, because they all mean slightly different things

P0128 could use that definition
Could be thermostat is stuck open, could also mean CHT is reading low because it has a problem

Sorry I did not include the code. I have worked on cars many years ago before OBD and codes. It is a P0128. So I should check the thermostat? P0128 was not on the list you included the link to.

No its not, Ford didn't use P0128 for a few years so was not on 1995 list, but is no newer Ford lists

P0XXX codes are generic, used by all automakers, as per OBDII standards, and have the same "meanings", per OBDII standards
P1XXX codes are maker specific, can mean different things on different brands of vehicles

Yes, could be your t-stat is stuck open or CHT sensor is under reporting temp

Start cold engine and feel upper rad hose and heater hose at the firewall
Let engine idle for 2 or 3 minutes then feel both hoses again
Heater hose should be heating up, upper rad hose should still be Cold, if upper hose is also heating up then thermostat is stuck open
