Tachometer Problems 2.3 2003

How we doin? On my 2.3 the tachometer seems to enjoy not working sometimes. Like today for an example, started her up and the tach needles went up above 4k and then sat at 4k for a good ten-fifteen seconds. If i put the car in drive and press on the pedal it will balance out again. It also acts funny sometimes when im driving, i will just happen to notice the needle shouldnt be in the place it is ect.. And no, the rpms of the engine are not going up to 4k when it started, its just the needle. So i am hoping just a bad tach, im guessing if i get a new one put her in everything will be good. But things dont always work out that way so before i go and do that i would love some suggestions or educated guesses thanks guys.

On my 1992 ranger it was a bad solder job. Google "tach stuck at 3k or 4k ranger" and there are tonnes of write up about it.
