Easy rear coolant hose replacement

The ford manual calls for removing the transmission to replace the rear coolant hose. My thought was why would an engineer design a motor with a coolant hose in the rear? After some research and study I learned the engine was originally designed for front wheel drive vehicles and then used in the trucks. After additional research I read where someone was able to do it without pulling the tranny, if he can do it I can. I started looking for clamp tools, I found some on Amazon and ordered the kit of 3, after ordering them I found the one pictured below for $69.04, ouch! The first set would not work and returned them, thanks Amazon. I jacked the front up, removed the front wheel, removed the wheel well, biggest job. It took me less than 2 minutest to get the tool in place, compress the clamp and remove the hose. You need the same style hose clamp to use on the new hose installation. I put the hose clamp on the new hose 2” from the end of the hose and closed the clamp tool down just enough to grip the clamp without putting enough pressure on it to loosen the grip on the new hose. I did spray a little silicone spray in the hose so it would slip on the fitting easier. I was able to seat the hose on the fitting then I finished squeezing the clamp and slid it onto the fitting. I used an inspection mirror to insure everything was in place. I hope this write will help someone.

Notice the lock lever above the left handle, it holds the pliers closed as you squeeze it. Squeeze and press it to release the grip.

They are 17” in length so they give you a long reach. The teeth on the pliers do an excellent job of gripping and holding the clamps.

You can see how tight the location is, but these pliers did the trick. At this point the $69.04 was money well spent.

That looks like it would help. I just did mine with pliers and it was a bit tough.

Thanks,
