Oil pressure sensor

Hey guys,

I have to replace the sensor but I did the oil change last month. Would it be possible to replace the sensor without needing to drain the oil? I know the sensor is grounded through the threads so I don't want to screw anything up. Let me know.

Thanks!

No oil will come out when you remove the oil pressure Switch, as long as engine is off, lol

For an oil LEVEL sensor, on the oil pan, yes its best to change that after draining the oil

Thanks for the reply, the one I have to replace is right above the oil filter. When I removed it a little oil cane out so I put it right back waiting for the new one. Is it ok if I take the old one out and replace it with the new one without draining the oil? I don’t mind loosing a little bit of oil but I know it’s grounded on the threads do I don’t want to risk messing anything out

let me know what you think, thanks

Yes a little oil will drain back out, a little, very little, its just draining out of the main oil passage.

The new sender/switch will have sealer on the upper threads, and threads are tapered, like pipe treads, so it will seal when installed, without adding anything to it

Yeah, I ended up replacing it without draining the oil and it was just a squirt. Everything is fine so far. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with people like me!
