Spark Plugs,,
Spark Plugs,,
I want to change my own spark plugs, the problem is the book I have about the ranger doesnt cover my 2002 2.3L, so what should I buy? My dad says it is a pretty simple install, I can see 4 plugs on top of the engine so I assume I only have 4 spark plugs.
Any brand recommendations and where to get them? I also plan to replace the wires aswell,, what is the gauge for gap?
pepboys quoted $80 installed for just plugs but that I should get double platinum or something,,

I'd get the factory Motorcraft plugs, depending on your miles you might not even need new wires, but JBA makes good wires, and the underdog wires are good, thats what I have. Check around the vacuum diagram under the hood, it should say the plug gap..
The 2001+ 2.3's have 4 plugs. I would use Motorcraft double platinums and Motorcraft or other quality wires. Look up the correct plug and gap in your owners manual.

Most people have had nothing but bad luck with the Bosch plugs with the 2.3L. I have found the original Motorcraft plugs to be the best for this application. My '03 uses agsf32fec double platinum plugs. Some Ford dealers will try to charge over $17 per plug. Murray's auto parts sells them for $6.73 per plug. I have tried most of the available plug options for the 2.3L, but the Motorcrafts can't be beat.
Yeah when I went to the dealer to get a set for my truck, they wanted $8.50/ea and the parts guy gave me a break and let me have em for $5/ea, probably because i was in there a lot over the summer. Those bosch platinum 4's are just a rip off for our trucks.
