So i have a 2002 edge 2wd and i love this truck, it drives amazing but the 3.0 hasnt given me much excitement.

Recently the thing has been drivin bad and iv been having power problems and im thinkin about swappin in a 4.0 v6 but i want to make sure what im getting my self into.

The truck is an automatic so i was wondering if the 4.0 will work with the automatic or if im going to have to get a new transmission

I was also wondering in terms of the wiring harness and the computer of the car if im going to have to replace that with a new one for the 4.0

And i wanna make sure that the motor mounts and everything will fit and all that good stuff

Im hoping that its as simple as dropping it in and bolting it up so im gonna make sure

Also if theres any other things im missing that would make this not work please let me know lol

 

Won't work

The 3.0 and the 4.0 have different transmission bolt patterns, they are not interchangeable.

You would need, Engine, Transmission, Computer, and Engine wiring harness.

 

Changing engine size requires new transmission, and computer with wiring harness, as said

Swapping in a 4.0l would require the same work as swapping in a V8

Sell the 3.0l Ranger and buy a 4.0l Ranger
