1993 engine in 1996?

Good evening. First post. I have a 1996 ranger 2.3L 5spd 4x2 that lost a piston. rear one developed a hole in it, so I bought a 1993 engine to replace this one not knowing there were casting differences. So far I have found that the power steering pump bracket is different....

I want to swap all the external parts from the bad 96 engine to the good 93 engine....is there any issue with this? What problems would I come across?

thanks

Welcome to the forum

Yes, BIG ISSUE
You can't do it, 1989-1994 2.3l uses Hall effect crank sensor, 1995-2001 2.3l/2.5l used VR crank sensor
No interchange or wiring work around, just one of those things

Sell it and find a 1995-2001 2.3l or 2.5l Lima

You can look around, I have heard of people doing it, but couldn't find any of those threads
If your crank in the 1996 is OK then you could swap over the 1993 pistons and rods and head, they are the same
