1993 2.3 engine swap to a 1995 2.3 engine
1993 2.3 engine swap to a 1995 2.3 engine
Hello, I am new to this forum. I was told that if I had problems this was the place to go. I am trying to install a 1993 2.3 engine into a 1995 2.3. I swapped the intake and the manifold. I found that the 1993 engine does not have a camshaft sensor and that the crankshaft sensor is a 4 wire. I would like to know if any of you members have done this before and if you will help me get this problem solved. I am a decent mechanic and would love to go forward with this. Suggestions and comments welcome.
engine swap guestion
I was hoping that I would be able to use the complete 1993 motor because I ran it and drove the truck before I removed the engine. I don't know about the 1995 engine but I know there was water in the oil so I am sure they ran it hot. Any Ideas or suggestions? Help

1989-1994 2.3l used separate spark module, ICM and a 12volt crank sensor
In 1995 Ford changed the front of the 2.3l engine to use an AC Volt crank sensor and the new OBD2 computer, used this from 1995 thru 2001 with 2.3l and 2.5l Lima engines
These years are not interchangeable for a swap
The crank sensor setup is the main stumbling block
There is no "wiring" change/interface that will work
1989-1994 computer only works with the 12v crank sensor and ICM, the 1995 and up computer only works with AC voltage crank sensor, and its not just the voltage, its the type of signal, 12v on/off pulse vs AC volt Sine Wave pulse, which is why there is no wiring interface that can work
You could swap out engine wiring harnesses and computers, but that also opens another can of worms when trying to reconnect the system
Sell the 1993 engine and buy a 1995-1997 2.3l engine, or rebuild the 1995 engine
