Have a 94 Ranger with an automatic transmission , when I shift into drive or reverse it slams into gear, truck actually jerks forward or backwards, what could it be? It start doing this over time but has gotten worse, it is time to change the filter and plan on doing that next week, but if it needs to go into the shop I need to let them do the filter change.

 

sounds like your trans might be on its way out

 

im having the same problem now.

 

Well I going to have the tranny flushed and a new filter put in, But that has to wait till the first of the month as I already dropped $400 in it to get the miss in the 3rd cylinder fixed, that was a bad injector.

 

Well I finished the filter change and tranny flush, it helped with the hard shifting but did not fix the problem, reverse shifts fine now but going into drive is still harsh, but now not as bad as it was.

 

your o/d light isnt flashing is it?

 

No, no lights on the dash are blinking.
