1995/1996 4.0 Splash 4x2 gear selector problem

Hello guys,

I think my truck has the 4R55E or maybe the 4R44E not positive however, it has lost the shift detents in the gear selector. It still goes into gear but the shifter just slides up and down without the stops at each gear option. The shift tube bushing is good and the shift cable is good. I disconnected the shift cable from the selector lever on the trans and that lever just glides back and forth as well. What's the part called on the inside that causes this? Is it a shift plunger or something? Let me know what I should look for before dropping the pan.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I have attached a pic and I think this is the part that is faulty in the trans but will confirm this weekend. Can someone let me know what it is called and where I can order one from if needed please. This isn't my trans but found this pic to use as a reference.

Thanks

4.0l used the 4R55E, but same part for either and the 5R55E

Detent roller

Try part number F5TZ-7E332-A

But these rarely break, but once you have the pan off you can see whats going on

Also, is it fine to use Castrol Transmax Mercon V fluid in this transmission?

Finally got around to removing the pan to inspect and as I thought, the detent roller was broken. The other half got sucked up into the filter so I have a new part on order.
