2.5 auto trans

Hi, I have a 99 ranger with a 2.5 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission. What would cause the transmission not to shift into overdrive? The od off light also flashes. I am puzzled due to the fact the trans is freshly rebuilt within 2500 miles. Help!!**

Welcome to the forum

You have a 4R44E automatic, aka, 4R55E, 5R44E, 5R55E, all the same
These are fully computer controlled automatics

There is no "this is the problem" with the available information you have now

OD light flashes when computer notices a problem with transmission ratio changes, i.e. shifting, or if a control is not responding like it should, i.e. circuit problem
There should be some codes set in computers memory, they will be P0700 to P0799, that's the range for transmission codes
Most auto parts stores can read the codes, and do it for free, but ASK then first if their reader can read transmission codes, not all readers can, WRITE THEM DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

Whats the warranty on the rebuilt transmission?

Unfortunately if a shop does a "soft parts" only rebuild an automatic only lasts 12 to 18 months, usually just past warranty
You need to do some hard parts like pump, one-way clutch and OD drum to get a long lasting rebuild

@RonD where exactly would I find the speed sensor on the transmission? I have no warranty remaining on the transmission also I'm not getting any transmission codes

In 1998 to 2000 Rangers Speed sensor is on the rear axle, the ABS sensor, GEM Module connects to this and changes its signal to an 8,000 pulse signal then sends it out to speedometer and computer(for transmission shifting use)

4R44E does have a turbine shaft speed(TSS) sensor, have to do a full tear down of transmission to get to it

Not all readers can get the P07xx codes, transmission codes, there should be P07xx codes if OD light flashes
