Ive just recently got my 1998 ranger xlt with a 2.5l with 8 plugs and and a 5 speed. This is the first ranger ive owned. The guy at autozone said to try and put in a 2.9 carb motor out of the older rangers and bronco II but i dont know if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same for both blocks could anyone help, or suggest a better way to go. My problem is the motor in the truck is bad with 251,000 miles on it and i need to put something else in it but havent heard anyrhing good about the 2.5l what should i do?? Any help is appreciated!!

 

put in another 2.5 and leave it alone. your first mistake was listening to "the guy at autozone".
