2001 automatic tranny ford ranger stuck in 4wd

I believe my 2001 automatic tranny does ranger is stuck in 4wd. I’ve been using 4Hi due to lots of snowfall recently, but turned it off yesterday, the light even went off. I figured I was in 2wd and turned into a parking space when my truck started kind of humping or bucking. I believe it may be in 4wd due to it only happening on dry pavement on sharp turns and because there are no affects on the steering wheel (vibration nor shuddering). Is there anyway to confirm my suspicions or get it back to 2wd without too much technical knowledge.

Just put it back in 4high and drive on dry pavement, turning steering wheel to get that "normal" bucking that happens in 4WD
Then turn it back to 2WD and repeat the test

I had my transfer case get stuck in 4WD as I was heading out on a long trip. I eventually removed the front drive shaft to keep the drivetrain from binding in corners. My transfer case is manual shift. I could tell it was something wrong with the transfer case and not the shifter linkage.

When the transfer case was taken apart, we found the plastic part (slider?) that moves the mechanism that shifts it in and out of 4WD was broken. I don't remember what those parts are called, but it is easy to find the broken part once the transfer case is opened. You may not have the same problem because you most likely have electronic shift. Something could be malfunctioning there.
