2002 3.0 problems auto trans

Hello. I took my ranger to the transmission shop to let them check it out and they said it might be a internal pressure leak and that i shouldnt mess with it because it will not cause any problems until something finally gives. might go 5k miles or it might go 50k. So the problem is the shifting from park to drive there is a 5-6 second stall until it finally catches to gear and other times it will go right into gear. it also shifts pretty hard between 1st-3rd gears. Has anyone ever had problems like this? Thanks

Delayed engagement is a common problem. It's usually a valve body problem and is easily fixed usually. It can be the pressure modulating solenoid which is a bit more money -- but it's not a "drop the transmission" type of fix. Find another shop that knows Fords and can fix it properly. It's such a common problem in 2001+ 5R44E's that a good shop should know how to handle it.
