Hey guys,

My auto trans is going out on my '98 3.0L 2WD Ranger. I found a low mileage auto trans out of a 2002 3.0L 2WD Ranger for a pretty good price. Does anyone know if this trans will work for my truck?

I asked a trans guy at the local Ford dealership. He said there was a major part number change, and that he thought there was a solenoid type change in 2001. He said this would make all the electronic controls act funny.

Any thoughts? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say it'll fit, but you may need the '02 ECU/computer thingy on the firewall..


BUT, dont take my word for it.





I'd guess the 'major change' could have possibly been 4spd vs 5spd?

 

98-00 3.0's autos were all 4spds 4.0's autos had 5spds. In 01+ autos both v6's got 5spds
