2002 Ranger

Hi. We have a 2002 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 167,000 miles. The problem in question is that when we stop the vehicle, it jerks and does the same thing when we take off from a stop. We have had it in to our local Ford dealer and they can't seem to find the problem. This vehicle was involved in a hit/run collision a couple years ago and a rebuilt transfer case was installed. We have had problem after problem ever since with this problem being the latest. Does anyone know what this problem is and how costly it will be to fix. This has been a great truck; very tough. Thank you.

A problem similar to this has been resolved by cleaning and applying new grease to the drive-shaft splines. It requires taking the boot off and sliding the splines apart. Make sure it is marked so it can be put back together in the exact same position.
