Recently was gifted an 04 Ranger with 54k on it from my FIL. What is the ID or model # of the transmission? Where can I locate it? New to the forum and this 04 Ranger so any help appreciated.

2001 to 2011 4.0l SOHC Ranger will have the 5R55E automatic

It also may have the 5R55W

Look on Drivers door Build Label(back edge of door), take a picture of it, has lots of info about your specific vehicle

Lower part of label will have TRANS(or TR) with a letter under it
D = 5R55E
R = 5R55W
Same transmissions but the W has Wider gear ratios
