2008 5R55E from Ranger hooks up to 2003 electrically

Hi everyone.
Almost a year ago, I needed a trans for my 2003 2wd Ranger. I picked up a 2008 5R55E for a great price and a 6 month warranty.
After life was happening the last year (terrible job to new job, family troubles), I finally got under the truck and swapped it.
New torque converter, Motorcraft Mercon V fluid, 4x4 pan and filter (deeper and has drain plug), a flushing of the lines and cooler, and a prayer to the Ford Gods.
The electrical was a match from mine to the donor, so that was encouraging.
I filled up the TC and the pan, then started the rig.
Shifted into D. Nothing...for a few seconds.
Hark, the herald angels...
*clunk*
Shifted into R...
*clunk*
Filled the trans the rest of the way as the oil was now circulating throughout the system.
Went for a test.
It shifted through all 5 gears and did a reverse drive for a block at different speeds.
I kept seeing sources say trans from 2001-2003 are interchangeable, then 2004-2008 the same, so is it safe to say it's now widened that window from 2001-2008?
I went to pick up a desk on a 30-mile round trip and it performed great!
I'm sure I'm just paranoid regarding any ECU conflicts, but has anyone heard anything to the contrary?
I'm just stoked I rolled the dice and I won![104[1]](https://www.ranger-forums.com/rf/forum2/images/smilies/104[1].gif)

Good work
Yes, the 16 pin electrical is the same from 1995 to 2011
In 2001 an extra sensor was added above shift rod, ISS sensor
2001 and up Ranger computer needs that sensor
So 2001-2011 transmission are interchangeable, if.........................they are for the same engine and match 2WD or 4x4
2001-2011 transmissions can be used on 1998-2000 Rangers, these don't need speedometer hook up
1995-1997 Ranger 2WD do need speedometer hook up on transmission, but 4x4s do not, they have it on the transfer case, so 1995-1997 Ranger 4x4s can use 1995 to 2011 4x4 automatic trans
If your model was a 4R then a 5R will work, but as a 4-speed not 5-speed, that's a computer issue not a trans issue
You can not use 1995-2000 automatic transmissions on 2001-2011 vehicles, no ISS sensor, and no way to add one

So I can swap a 2001 and later 4R55E that was mated to a 4.0 SOHC in a pinch and it will work?
I haven't seen such an animal, yet, although, I was not looking for one.

I got my 5R. I'm happy.
Thanx Ron.
You can swap a 2001, and up, 5R into a 1998-2000 that used a 4R, which is basically only the 3.0l Rangers, as the 2.3l/2.5l ended in 2000, so no bellhousing match 2001 and up, so moot
The 4.0l engine used the 5R from 1998 and up, but 1998-2000 didn't have/need the ISS sensor, so would work fine using a 2001-2011 5R with ISS because its just not hooked up
But not the other way around, you can not used a 1998-2000 5R in a 2001-2011 Ranger

I misread your reply the first time.
You said IF my model was a 4R, a 5R will work...
I read that wrong. 🤣
Working (temp) from home, my reading comprehension is toast.
still thankful I’m still working 👍🏻
thanx Ron
