4R44 to a 4R55

I am in need of a transmission. My ranger is a 3.0 with the 4r44 trans. Since I already have the bell for that, could I just swap out bells and put the 4r55 in? Is there any other differences that I should be aware of?

Welcome to the forum

No problem, 4R44E and 4R55E are the same transmission

You have changed bell housings on automatics before right?

It not just a bell housing, its also the front housing for the transmissions Main pump.

Short video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-L71-udS_g

Thats whats behind the bell housing.
You can pull if off and reinstall it, making sure to get shaft aligned if you are careful doing it.

I've rebuilt manuals before, autos I know are a different sport!
The reason behind the swap, engine mods (Can and lifters) that the old worn 4r44 just couldn't handle anymore. I lost the tow/haul about 3 years ago. Since the engine rebuild the transfer started slipping 1-2 and 2-3 sometimes. Sometimes it would not downshift when getting off the highway. Over the years I could fell less and less power to the wheels, now yesterday morning noticed a knock from the TC. Figured with everything wrong with it, just swap out with another 44. Then I saw the 4r55.
Also just thinking about a JY 44 and taking it to a trans shop and having them just rebuild it then swapping out.

Ohhhh and not really new here, been so long since my last login that I couldn't even remember which email I used.
