4r55e transmission troubleshooting

Hello I have a 1996 Mazda b4000 4.0 with the 4r55e transmission in it. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd it has a delay/hard shift. I have replaced the entire valve body/gaskets with no luck. Also fluid change new filter. I was thinking of trying a band adjustment. Can anyone give me some details of location and how to do the band adjustment for this trans? Also any clues of what could cause this issue other than bands. I don't want to pull the trans because if I do I will just replace it. It still pulls strong its just that stupid delay/hard shift that annoys the crap out of me. That and I'm sure will cause more issues down the road. It has 166700 miles on it.

Detailed thread on band adjustment here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...-chart.158160/

4R44E, 4R55E, 5R44E, and 5R55E are all the same transmission
So any shifting issues or adjustment issues mentioned for one model applies to all models, just FYI

Okay I tried that unfortunately the band adjustment didn't work. Going to have to explore more options. Maybe replacing the servo.

Band adjustment

My transmission won’t shift final drive at high speeds. It stays in 4th gear and at high RPM. All other gears shift normally. I did the band adjustment but no change. Is there something else I can try to get overdrive or final drive to work? What would be the damage of turning the bands tighter ? Can anyone shed some light please???

Welcome to the forum

You should start your own thread and include the YEAR of the Ranger and engine size for transmission issues

The Bands are BRAKES, so NO you do not want to over tighten the brakes

Hey I know it's been awhile but I need some more help on the transmission. I am wanting to replace the two servos for the trans but i am having a hard time making sure I buy the right ones. If I am correct I need two. One is the intermediate servo and one is the overdrive. on amazon all I can find is one but are being called the same thing. Are these two not different sizes?
