4WD doesn't like to turn left

I'm new to the world of Rangers. I have a 2011 XLT w/195K miles,.It looks and runs great except when I turn hard left with 4X4 or 4X4 Low engaged. It feels like the right front wheel is locking up.. In 2WD it turns perfectly, no issues. This is happening at low speeds. Any ideas?? Thank You

Welcome to the forum

If you turn any 4WD hard to one side in 4WD it will feel that way, like its skipping, especially on a hard non-slip surface, its pulling the front of vehicle sharply in the direction of the turn, against the protestations of the other 3 wheels which are all locked together in 4WD, lol

Jack up the front wheels, in 2WD, and turn them full lock(wheel turned left or right all the way) one way and then the other, spin each wheel while its at full lock, see if axle CV joint is making a noise

Thanks for the quick response Ron...I will check that out..I assume If it does make a noise the CV joint should be replaced.. I don't hear anything when I'm in 2WD turning hard left or right when I am driving.

Yep, it's doing what it's designed to do. Recommend NOT using 4WHi\4WLo on Hard\NonSlip surfaces,
or at least taking care not to turn too sharply. Can mess up the front end.
When road is LooseGravel\Wet\Snow\Ice\... this LiveFrontAxle4WD works great.
Relies on you the driver to judge when to switch in\out of 4WD, not like later AWD systems that are computer controlled.

Thanks for the explanation. I really appreciate the info. 4WD only when really needed.

In 2WD the CV joints only have power input from the wheel spinning, so no resistance on other side of the joint
In 4WD they have power from the transfer case(differential) AND the wheel, so both ends of the joint

Another thing about this 4WD system:
4x4ShiftMotor mounted on the backside of TransferCase (directly under the DriversSeat) &
4x4ConModule mounted in Dash or behind PassengerKickPanel, are both NotoriousFailureItems;
helps once\twice a month to shift 2WHi~4WHi~4WLo & back, driving a short distance with each,
to keep confidence up that they are working before they're really needed.
