Slave Cylinder?

Hello all, here's a back story. 1994 Mazda B4000 4x4.

Over the past week I noticed the truck was getting more difficult to put into 1st gear on occasion and began grinding when shifting into reverse. I figured air in the line.

Pulled the master cylinder and bench bled it per the infamous youtube video and the problem persisted. I then saw another video about sucking the air out through the reservoir using a vacuum pump so I figured I'd try that next.

I got distracted while vacuuming the air through the line and ended up sucking all the fluid out of the system with a bunch of black stuff at the bottom. I refilled it and pulled the master cylinder out again to repeat the bench bleed when I realized it was leaking fluid through the plunger where the rod connects to the clutch pedal so I figured that was the original problem so I went and purchased a brand new pre bled master cylinder.

Installed the new master cylinder and gravity bled the system through the bleed screw on the slave and still had no pressure. Removed the new master cylinder and bench bled that as well and still nothing.

If I remove the clutch line to the slave and press the pedal it's hard as a rock so the new master cylinder is fine. The slave is dry and I can see a tiny bit of movement on the pressure plate when engaging the clutch but not enough to put it in any gear with the engine running. I have pedal pressure now roughly the same as when I first started messing with this thing but it won't engage.

It worked fine enough before I accidentally sucked all the air out of the entire system and now I've been messing with this thing for 3 full days trying every single "how to bleed ford ranger hydraulic clutch" video on the entire internet and NOTHING is working.

Did I blow out my slave cylinder or something when I sucked all of the fluid out of the system with the vacuum pump? I've tried:

Bench bleeding multiple times
Gravity bleeding using about 4 liters of dot-3 at this point following the instructions to the letter
Hooking up the vacuum pump to the bleeder screw and pumping it while pouring more fluid through the reservoir trying to get fluid through the slave until no bubbles come through.
Taking a syringe and forcing fluid through the reservoir while gravity bleeding

What am I doing wrong?

I was finally able to get some movement of the slave cylinder after bleeding the system for like the 50th time. I can get it to go in gear with the engine running but it takes a lot of force. Slave cylinder is dry inside the bell housing. Is there a way to definitively tell if my slave cylinder is dead if it's not leaking? It's a 4x4 and I really don't feel like dropping the transmission to replace a part if the solution is simply that I'm doing something dumb and bleeding the system wrong.

HI, I went thru a similar problem with my '93 Ranger XLT with a 3.0 V6 , 4wd. I had very little success with the vacuum bleed, but when Ron the forum admin suggested I gravity bleed the system my clutch came back to life! Hopefully you'll have success too! Ed
