4wd not working???????

ok, so i've replaced the hubs to aftermarket AVM. When i put in 4wd i can hear the case click in, but the front wheels don't engage. The hubs are locked, I have tried driving up and down the road and tried locking it in and reversing and it just wont lock the front wheels in. The case has been making a noise in 4lo for a while now, could that be why. Also while riding tonight, when i had it in 4lo or when i turned the a/c or rolled the windows up, my batter guage moved down a ways, alternator, or just a bad battery?
i really appreciate any help. thanks, JR

Put it up on jackstands and lock the hubs. Turn the driveshaft by hand. Do the wheels turn? If so unlock them and turn it again, the wheels should not turn. Then lock the t-case in 4wd, and see if the shaft will still turn. It should not if the truck is in park (or in gear if its a man.) If it does turn, then your t-case is fubared or the shifter is messed up...
