4x2 4x4 conversion
4x2 4x4 conversion
Thanks for the welcome great web site.
Question please I have a 2003 edge 3.0 five speed two wheel drive. I have a chance to purchase at a great price a 1990 2.9 five speed four wheel drive ranger to do a 4x conversion on my edge. Is this a good donar, will the parts fit my edge. I've done research not afraid of the job need to know about a match. don't want to waste money. Thanks

Nope, the trucks are completely different and the only thing that would have a chance of working is the transfer case, but it's not worth it if it's a 1350. Your best bet is to find a 1998-2011 4x4 truck as a donor.
4WD Rangers have a different frame up front than 2WD
So 4WD is not a bolt on option, all Rangers are not 2WD and then a front axle is just bolted on at the assembly plant to make it 4x4
4WD is build from frame out
I would research doing an SAS build and then just get a 4WD trans and transfer case for the 3.0l engine
Or even better sell the 2WD and buy a 4WD Ranger, cheapest and best way to get a 4WD

Bolt-on 4WD swapping is an option for the Torsion Bar equipped 4x2 Rangers only. The only difference between the frame on a 4x4 Ranger and an Edge/Sport T-Bar 4x2 Ranger is that the rear most differential support mount bracket is missing on the frame. This can be easily overcome with a welder and some scrap steel (be weary of fuel lines). Otherwise, all the parts bolt right up.
