If its an auto you have to put it in neutral and hold the brake. If its manual you have to hold the brake and clutch in.

Turn the truck off but turn the key on to run. Then you will be able to hear the motor and what not. when your trying to get it to engage.

I had a similar probelm a while back but my 4wd lights were flashing as well. Unhooked the batt for a few minutes and it fixed the problem. Nothing since.

is it going in or is the light just not working. you should be able to hear the transfer case motor click into gear. and you would notice a big redection in speed if you were driving!

If its going into high then more than likely you are not doing something right.

Like I said. If its going into 4wd high then it is working since the 4wd motor just turns a bit more to get into low range. I'm sure he isn't doing the proper procedure.

Yes but not everyone wants to swap to a manual case.

The push button type of 4wd selectors fail more often than the actual **** type.

Like what Christian said. And if it was in 4 lo, you would definately be able to tell it.

Are you holding the brake in? Also wait for it because it takes a few seconds before it tries to shift.

I have the same problem and have for about 1.5 years. If i pull one of the 4x4 control module fuses under the pass kick panel and put it right back in it works. I have had the shift motor and 4x4 control module replaced twice each and still have the problem. try pulling some fuses, putting them back in and trying again. (you can leave the truck on in 4hi, thats what I do)

Do you have your owners manual with the fuse diagram? If not I can get a pic of the one it is on my truck (dont know if yours would have the same fuse block though)

on mine, not being able to get into 4wdLo was because of a faulty shift position sensor, mounted at the shift lever on the auto tranny. The "neutral position didn't work, the truck wouldn't start in neutral, only park, and since it never knew when it was in neutral, it would never allow 4wdLo. easy enough to test for that, with engine off shift into neutral and try to start the truck.
