4x4 low wont engage
#28
mmm ok lets clarify this:
Auto Transmission, **** style electric 4wheel, Correct?
Sorry i hope im not the only guy lost hear?
Hey i know how you feel bud, ive had all kinda issues with my 4X4.-broken sensors, leaking seals, broken hubs, new engagement motor.
My advise is eventually we all reach a limit where we break down and pay a visit to a mechanic....sucks but it happens.

Another Solution
I realize that this is an old topic and some resolutions were made but I have one of my own (not sure if anyone else covered it because I never read the entire thread). Check/replace your Neutral Safety Switch. In the case of mine, it was a replacement improperly installed. But if the 4x4 module isn't receiving that the vehicle is in neutral when it is, it will not go into 4 low. When changing mine out, I noticed that the switch was likely reading Reverse when it was in fact in Neutral. But if the switch is going bad, same results, no 4 low.

Click here for the 2~4WDTransfer ElectricalDiagram. Believe this diagram is valid for
model years 2001~2005 Explorer+MazdaB+Ranger+SportTrac with a 1354 Series 2~4WDTransferCase;
earlier+later model years use a different ConModule & ShiftMotor.

4x4 low not engaging
2004 Ford XLT. The selector is on the bezel& it’s a five speed transmission. I shut the truck off, put it in neutral then start put it in four wheel low started up the truck backed up less than a foot, and it clicked into low range four-wheel-drive. Hope this helps someone.
