5R55E Shift Kit

I am gonna be reprogramming my valve body soon with this:

http://www.superior-transmission.com...Page.cfm?ID=15

My transmission works alright, but I wouldn't mind it to be more firm on the shifts. I know they have flare up issues and mine does it, although as long as I am easy on it, it shifts fine. I'm tired of havin to be easy on it all the time so it's fixin to get repaired. If there's any interest, I'll be glad to to a step by step how to with photos. Just let me know.

Seems like I paid like 49 bucks for it. It wasn't a lot for a shift kit. I've had a few thingscome up that have postponed this for a little bit, but I will get on it when I can. Kit says it fixes basically all of the problems inherent with the 5R55E.....but of course I am sure that is as long as the rest of the transmission is in good condition. I don't know of anything that will repair worn out bands and clutches. Stay tuned. I will post when I do the job.....shouldn't be too much longer.

IN for how-to.
mine has been having issues and i cant decide if i want to swap a manual in or sell for something thats better on gas.

as both of those options take time this would be a decent stop-gap cause i hate having to baby it trying to get out in traffic and all

This is not too difficult but can be overwhelming if you are not prepared.

In order to install the shift kit of your choice you will need the kit, upper and lower separator plate gaskets, low/reverse servo gasket, and the typical pan gasket with filter. Also will need about 10 quarts of fresh atf.

As for tools rubber gloves and a shower cap will help, mandatory though will be an inch pound toque wrench. I have done this on my truck twice, once on the stock trans and again on the evilbay crapbuilt trans.

It is best to have a friend help as it sucks laying on your back in a puddle of used atf trying hold the valve body up and start all the bolts. Also iirc there are 4 different lengths a guide is critical in getting them home again. I do have the R&R for the VB if any one is interested just post or pm your email and I will forward it to you.

kits and parts can be found here

Also a ATSG repair manual for this trans.

I would recommend dealer for any gaskets and maybe a new separator plate as there is a tsb for it.
