Are 7.5 and 8.8 axle shafts interchangeable??

I have a 7.5 4.10 rear in my 98 4x4 3.0. I bought an 8.8 axle shaft prior to checking if I have an 8.8 rear. The shaft I bought is a 28 spline axle from an '02. Will these axles be a direct swap???

Thanks

- Jason

I got the passenger side axle, which is what I needed. I just want to make sure that everything else is the same.
Thanks
