95 2.3 2wd auto Reverse Problem
Welcome to the forum
If you shift into 1st(not drive) instead of Reverse at that same time, does it also stall?
If so then it reads more like an engine issue, cold engines often stall easier if computer doesn't compensate for "in gear" status when using an Automatic trans.
With a manual trans driver knows to REV engine more when its cold or it will stall, computer must do that with an automatic
Is your column shifter loose at all?
Does the gear indicator match selected gear exactly?
On the transmission, driver side, is the DTR(digital transmission range) sensor
DTR tells the Computer what gear you select, when you go from Park to Reverse the computer should "see" that and increase engine RPMs(idle) by about 50rpm
Cold idle should be about 1,100rpm
If cold idle is lower then ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor may be at fault
Or IAC(idle air control) Valve may need to be cleaned

when cold all gears are fine except reverse i cant say the selector matches because the cable to the indicator was cut when swapping a explorer cluster junkyard just ripped it out instead of taking it out right. idle does jump up but the it just sputters out. The shifter doesn't seem to be loose to me at least and ive replaced the iac when i did the last tune up.
Only other thing I can think of, if it only does it in Reverse, is transmission pressure.
If its close to right time, change trans fluid and filter
Reverse requires the highest pressure to engage, 150-175 psi
I would expect a slow engagement of Reverse but could go the other way and stall the engine
