I got a 5 speed 4x4 3.0 v6 ranger. the 3.0 sucks to much gas with no power. is there any way to drop a 4.0 in? if so will it mount up to my transmission or what. my dads got an auto ranger with the 4.0 and its nice and gets 15 to 18 mpg when i get 12 to 14
12 to 14 you must be pedal to the medal all the time. worst ive got is 16.
i shift at 3 grand the highest unless im running late then its red line and shift. casual drive i short shift by 5mph. full tank of gas i usualy get around 200 miles maby 230 but i usualy fill at 210
Holy crap, I shift at about 2000 to 2300 max.
Before I added the 33” I got 18-20 from the 3.0 sometime a little more if a lot of HY.
IMO… there is one main reason, “the Lead Foot Syndrome”.
85% of gas consumption is taken up in 15% of your driving style; acceleration, up-hill acceleration, and passing and of course trying to get the 3.0 to do 90 mph, but that is extra.
Chg’g your driving style, easy take offs, shift at 1500 to 2K and ease into it, don’t over accelerate up hills, and easy passing, in other words keep your foot OUT OF IT !
luck to ya.
