Are axle shafts interchangeable between 7.5” and 8.8” axles?

My 2000 4x4 has the 8.8” rear end, and I need to swap out the drivers side shaft because it’s bent.

The replacement shafts that I’m seeing online don’t specify whether they’re for the 7.5 or 8.8, so I’m assuming they’re compatible with either?

It looks to me like both rear ends have the same shaft length and diameter, so it seems like as long as I get a 28-spline axle it should work with either size, right?

Thanks!

Yes, the 7.5" and 8.8" Ranger used the same diameter and 28-spline axle shafts, and bearings and seals

The left and right axles are different lengths, on BOTH so not the same in that respect

2000 will be 27.25" on passenger side and 30.125" on drivers side, so you need to get correct side

1993 to 2009 are the same overall width, so would work for you
1992 and older are 1" shorter on each side, so wouldn't work for you
Explorer 8.8" axles also won't work for you, 31-spline and different length
