bad sound, i mean- not good at all

i have a bad whining sound coming from the rear. ujoints are tight so thats not it. sounds like its coming from the pumpkin itself.

to describe the sound, those who work with wood- it sounds like a 20" planer going 60mph. it overpowers the radio.

i wish i was kidding.. the bearings from ford were expensive.

BUT

I am sure there are other places to get them.. junkyards tend to have bearings.. but i went brand new from ford and had my shop install and it was 6** something..

never buy used bearings, they will not be cheap, you have to remove the carrier and pinion, then re-set the gears up and get ew shims and crushsleeve etc...

you may want to get a JY rear axle, now is your time to get the gear ratio you really want if you dont have it

well, found out the problem. my ring and pinion is bad. were not sure exactly how either. when we popped it open, looked like a milkshake when it poured out...not a good sign haha.

any ideas what could cause it to go bad?

fixed the seals, axlebearings, and new R&P. i looked at the old one and i had teeth busted off and ther was cracks in it, which find really odd considering i drive like an old lady.

sounds nice now, ie- no sound at all.

That's the next fix for my Dodge. It's not terrible yet, but it's worse then it was when I bought it.

How much do you think for a wheel bearing on the driver side? Goodyear priced me out @ $502 installed with tax.
