Brake upgrade
Brake upgrade
Newbe, can't find an answer. I have 2007 FX2 II Offroad with an R7 rear 8.8, 410's LS, 31 spline The question, will the exploryer rear disc's bolt on direct? Sorry, I see a lot on 7.5 rear ends and 8.8 28 spline nothing on my exact rear axle.

Believe so based on this. Seems to be a kit for an Exploder bolted up to a 31 Spline Level 2 8.8:

Rooks, Thank You for the response, had seen this and found that the caliper and rotor used in this kit are from a 2008 to 2010 Mustang and further research I can't cross them to a Ford Exployer. No Mustangs in my local Pull & Save lot to mic things out. No Rangers with an 8.8 31spline to match the exployer parts to. The 31 spine hosing is 1/4" larger and thus the bolt up may be different.

31 spline brake conversion
JD M,
Unless I recieve a negative to this conversion, After Christmas I'm going to find out, out to the wrecking yard and pull every thing short of the axle assy itself.
I'll post for others then of the outcome.

If you TRULY have the 31 spline Fx4 axle, YES they will bolt-up. You will need to address the parking brake using Explorer cables though. Ranger cables have different ends on them and cannot be used for Explorer parking brakes.
I have a 2005 Fx4 Level II Ranger 31spline axle under mine and it does have 31spline Explorer backing plates and rotors bolted to it.
Your donor Explorer would be a 1995-2001 Explorer and 95-05 Explorer Sport and Sport Trac. You will need backing plates (which have built-in caliper brackets), calipers, and rotors. You will also need to purchase two passenger side explorer rear rubber lines and secure them to the Ranger axle via all-thread unions welded to spring perch. As well as potentially bending and flaring new hardlines from the Y on the top of the Ranger pumpkin.

No, I'm watching my local yard, as soon as they get another explorer in with an 8.8 - 4.10 I'm going to pull the whole rear end as it will have possi also, so I can recoup some of my expense, plus the 2 I've missed both had manual t-cases and they're only $90.00 at the Pull & Save yard here, might as well grab one of those also.
Plus it's winter, this am it was -6, to cold to be bone yarding, will post results after I do the project. Or c heck back in a couple months, checks out to be an easy project

I finally completed this upgrade. As told by others it's very easy if you truly have an 8.8 rear end. Even the ebrake was easy using the brakes and cables for my 2007 from a 2001 Explorer doner, drop me a line if I can answer any questions, this worked out like a factory set up.
