C/V Joint Failure?

Hey all. I have a 2003 Ranger FX4. 171k Miles.

The past week, my truck has developed a problem. It all started when I made a sharp right turn. When I made this turn my truck started thumping, like I was running over a cattle grate. I can feel the thump under my left foot and in the steering wheel. It kept doing this for a few seconds after I straightened the wheel. I don't notice it when turned left. It also makes a clicking noise while turning and sometimes when going straight down the road, along with an intermittent vibration. I visually inspected the CV boots and they are fine with no tears. Is my CV joint failing, or is it a wheel bearing issue. I should replace both with this kind of mileage, but I'm without a job, and can only afford to replace what is wrong.

Can anyone give me any advice of what may be wrong, or things to check to help me further diagnose this problem?

jack your truck up and grab your front tire at the top and wingle it if it wobbley then it's your wheel bearing, but for your cv axle what does it sound like in 4wd

Just jacked it up, and wiggled the wheel. It moves, a lot. I guess that means it's time to replace the hub.

Mine does the same in 4wd, but not 2wd. Both cv and hub could be bad. Does it do it in 2wd?

I haven't had mine is 4wd in two years, so it's in 2wd when it's doing it. I've figured out it's the hub, got the part ordered, and will tackle it when the part comes in.

Where did you get a hub for $71?
