C4 transmission swap
I’m wanting to V8 swap my 86 ranger. I have a 68 289 and matching c4 transmission I’m wanting to throw in it but I have a few concerns....My ranger is 4x4 and I was wondering if I could keep it 4x4 with the c4. If so what all needs to be done to make that happen. Thanks in advance

No, you need a 4x4 transmission, the main shaft is shorter that 2WD version, so complete tear down to convert also different tail shaft housing
And the Ranger transfer case, BW1350, won't handle V8 torque very well
You can still get adapters, for the C4 to BW1350 V8 swaps in to Ranger or BII but $500
I would sell the working 2WD C4 and look for a C6 3-speed, or better yet an AOD 4-speed(OD), not an AODE(needs computer), from 4x4 with 302 V8, and an NP205 transfer case
289(1965 and up) and 302 used same bolt pattern for transmission, small block windsor
