Changed the Auto trans fluid/filter today...

ALways a fun and messy job, seems no matter how careful you are you always end up with some on the garage floor. Was wondering if you all re-use the factory trans pan gasket. I looked at mine and it appeared fine so I stuck it back on when I was finishing up. Just looked more durable than the one that came from Autozone and has the little metal tabs all through it to keep it from being over-torqued. No leaks as of yet, took it on a few drives while I was refilling the fluid. Truck is an '03 4.0/4x4 and has 59.8K miles and as far as I know the fluid & filter has never been changed. Didn't look bad or burnt but I'll start changing it out once a year or so. The 4-5 quarts you get out isn't a full exchange but every bit helps. If for some reason it ever gets damaged or leaks I'll more than likely get a genuine Ford gasket.

Yeah I have reused the gaskets, some of those replacements are cheesy looking.

I agree, the autozone one looked like crap..its in the garbage can. Checked under the truck and everything is dry as a bone so I guess it worked out with the OEM one.
