I own a 2005 ranger 3.0 v6 2wd 5speed. I have about 70k miles on it, Ive been having troubles with getting the stick into gear i feel like i am fighting it in to place and I hear grinding some times. I have changed the trans fluid once and that's the only work that has been done to the trans. It seems to be worse if the truck has been siting for a while but then it will loosen up and be a little more functional. Any ideas on what I should check for or fix?

Would you try to attempt to replace this yourself if you have moderate skill with mechanics? or should i take it in?

 

I replaced mine. The hardest part was getting the exhaust out of the way do you can drop the trans.

 

I can take the exhaust off, but i would be nervous opening the trans is that where the slave cylinder located?

It's not real hard to change. just get a manual and read up.

 

would you happen to have a pdf of the manual to replace the slave cylinder?

 

Idk about the removal but there are a couple vids on YouTube about properly bleeding it.

 

I can't find the pdf I'm on my phone right now. But if I was you I would just get a manual. It will help you later down the road too.

 

Are you losing fluid from your clutch fluid reservoir? Look at the side of your transmission to see if it's leaking there. If so, then it's your slave cylinder. It could be your master cylinder as well, though. Don't count out that possibility.
