Clunk and jerk on reverse when cold

As I engage reverse when the truck is cold there is a clunk and a jerk backwards. This does not happen when hot. Smooth shift then.
What is wrong?
Thanks,
Dan

1993 Ranger 3.0l should have the A4LD transmission, 1985-1994 Rangers, if automatics, all used this trans

No end of issues for these, but they are getting old.

Nothing specific comes to mind for your symptom.
Best bet for any automatic would be to change fluid and filter and see if problem goes away or changes.

Clunks

The fluid is newish and at the correct level.
I will change the filter and the reverse servo o-rings. These o-rings seem to give trouble.
