You mention that it doesn't do it in nuetral. Ok. When you're driving and accelerating pretty hard, does it sound the same as when you completely let off the gas? Rear end whine will change pitch or quit when you do this.

Sounds like your rear end is on its way out. The whine comes from - when throttle is applied it loads up on one side of the ring gear, then when you let off the gas it unloads. In other words, there's play between the two gears. That's the best I can explain it. Any reputable shop should be able to test drive it with you in the cab and tell you if it's the rear end or not.

I'd almost put money on it.

If it were u-joints, it'd make the noise whenever that rear shaft is spinning man... It's not u-joints if it's going away when you pop it in neutral... It's either tranny, t-case or the rear end... Almost sounds like a pinion bearing going out...

43 hours? Kewn, I just finished putting in 114 hours in 2 weeks... Try that one.. Good $$$ but = no life lol

bearings exploded in the axle so im loading up the 8.8 into the bed of my friends superduty and going to put it together so i can drive the truck again. I'll get it back before friday i hope but i dont know when the axle will go in. I still need to buy explorer leafs, pads and rotors for the disc conversion in the rear.
